The biggest black pepper producer...
Being that India is the country that is native for growing the black pepper plant, you would think that it is them being the largest producers; but in fact it isn't. In the 1900’s Vietnam became the biggest producers of pepper in the world overtaking India and the other large countries. India is currently the 2nd biggest producer, with Brazil being 3rd.
Last year 1,08,000 tonnes of black pepper was exported from Vietnam compared to Indias 17,500 tonnes. The quality of the pepper is truly what makes Vietnam sit on the top of the board. While the quality of the pepper is good, so is the price. It is not expensive to buy pepper from Vietnam but in pepper that has been exported from India has a decrease in quality and a higher price than Vietnam which is why it is not currently the biggest producer.
